2015 iLANDing Laboratory Program
Following the successful inaugural year of the iLANDing Laboratory Initiative, we had the pleasure of programing a second year. The 2015 iLANDing Laboratory Program occuipied the Spring and Summer seasons with a series of experimental workshops/laboratories designed by members of the iLAND community and those who are aligned with the values of iLANDing. The Laboratories serve as focused forums and platforms for a reflective, advanced discourse around urban ecology, kinesthetic experience, and new approaches to interdisciplinary creative processes. They draw on the history of iLAND’s programming, which has been cultivated over the past eight years through the iLAB Residency Program, iLAND Symposia, and the development of the iLANDing Method.
The iLANDing Laboratory Program facilitates opportunities for movement-based artists, biologists, architects, geographers, ecologists, urban planners and other natural and social scientists to design and explore working collaborations that engage the urban environment of NYC and its natural habitat, processes and phenomena. This new format allows iLAND to support more collaborators, bring in a wider public, and engage in a more diverse and lively discussion with a broad range of artists, ecologists and community members. It also provides an opportunity to revisit themes and practices from past projects and support new developments.
The laboratories will continue to develop the iLANDing Method and Archive – a set of rubrics and structures that facilitate in-depth collaborative processes across disciplines. One of the central tenets of iLANDing is that collaborators will participate in each other’s practices, and through that experience, develop new collaborative approaches to understanding aesthetic and scientific modes of knowledge relating to urban ecology.
